Brown Wins Adequan NAAC Silver Spurs Equine Rookie of the Year

By Christa Morris - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – November 29, 2012 – The $100,000-added National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Open World Championship Shootout presented by Equine Sports Medicine brought some of the best reining horses in the world to the NRHA Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship (NAAC) Show in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Thursday, November 29. Entries were headlined by four of the top 2012 NRHA Open World Championship contenders: Rr Hi Ho Star, Sail On Top Whizard, Dreamy Little Sailor and Reminhick.
After a thrilling performance stacked full of high scores, the Shootout out ended with tied scores of 228.5 and a shared championship for NRHA Million Dollar Rider Bernard Fonck (Incisa Scapaccino, Italy) aboard Sail On Top Whizard and NRHA Three Million Dollar Rider Andrea Fappani (Scottsdale, Ariz.) riding Shiners Chic.
Sail On Top Whizard (Whizard Jac x Miss N Sis by Miss N Cash) is a 2005 stallion owned by Danny and Mireille Cerato (Overijse, Belgium). He has had an extremely successful show career under Fonck’s training and has earned $213,200 in NRHA lifetime earnings including the 2009 NRHA European Futurity Level 4 Open Championship, 2010 Italian Reining Horse Association (IRHA) Derby Level 4 Open Reserve Championship and 2011 IRHA Derby Level 4 Open Championship. Prior to the Shootout paycheck ($30,294), they earned $42,437 for a total of $72,731 in 2012 Category 1 Open classes unofficially.
Shiners Chic (Smart Chic Olena x Ebony Shines by Shining Spark) is a 2005 gelding owned by Rosanne Sternberg (Aubrey, Texas). He has excelled in both open and non pro competition to a tune of $182,400 in NRHA lifetime earnings and the following accomplishments: 2008 NRHA Futurity Open finalist, two-time National Reining Breeders Classic (NRBC) Level 4 Open finalist (2009 and 2010), 2011 NRBC Level 4 Non Pro finalist, 2012 NRBC Challenge Level 4 Non Pro Champion and 2012 Ariat Tulsa Reining Classic CRI-3* Champion.
The 2012 NRHA Open World Champion will be recognized on Saturday, December 1 prior to the second section of the NRHA Futurity Open finals.

Thursday’s competition in the Adequan Championship Arena featured 65 competitors in the Adequan NAAC Silver Spurs Equine Rookie of the Year. Betsy Brown (Worthington, Ohio) qualified for the Silver Spurs Equine Rookie of the Year on her Sv Peppys Whiz at the NRHA East Central Regional Affiliate Finals in Lexington, Kentucky. They earned a 217.5 in the Adequan NAAC championship class for the win.
Wayne Thompson (Lexington, Ky.) rode his Crazy Lights (Hit The Lights x Smart Attack) to a 217 for the reserve championship. The duo also represented the East Central region.
The top ten finishers in the Silver Spurs Equine Rookie of the Year received Montana Silversmiths trophy buckles.
North Central Region Leads SmartPak Team Championship Standings
In the Adequan NAAC Team Championship standings (prior to Rookie of the Year), the North Central region leads with 64 points so far. The Mountain region is right behind with 43.5 points and the South Central has 50.5 points for third thus far. SmartPak will present $2,500 and the 2012 Adequan NAAC Team Championship on Saturday evening. The award goes to the region that earns the most total points at this year’s Adequan NAAC.

Oklahoma City, Okla. – November 28, 2012 – The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Futurity & Adequan® North American Affiliate Championship (NAAC) Show in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma completed the second go-round, second section of the $540,000-added NRHA Open Futurity on Tuesday. One section remains to determine who will qualify for $1.5 million final on Saturday, December 1.
Tim McQuay moved to the top of the composite standings with a 444 aboard Gunners Tinseltown (Gunner x Miss Tinseltown by Great Red Pine). The NRHA Professional from Tioga, Texas marked a 222 in both go-rounds on the stallion owned by David Silva, Sr. (Tolland, Conn.). They lead the $280,000 added level 4 open division.
Sitting in second place in the level 4 open division is Gunners Star (Rr Star x Gunners Smokin Jane by Gunner) and NRHA Two Million Dollar Rider Craig Schmersal (Overbrook, Okla.) with a 219 in the second go-round for a 443 composite score. The American Paint Horse gelding is owned by Frank Costantini, Jr. and Bill Bradley.
Leading the $145,000-added level 3 open division is Bella Juice (Smart Like Juice x Bella Conquistador by Conquistador Whiz) and NRHA Professional Luke Gagnon (Gainesville, Texas) with a composite score of 439 after earning a 218.5 in the second go-round. Cache Performance Horses, LLC of Bosalt, Colo. is the owner.
Callme Mister Mister (Mister Dual Pep x Travelin With Sass by Travelena) and Chris Dawson (Jacksboro, Texas) earned a 221 for their second go-round score. Their composite score of 435 gave them the lead in the $75,000 added level 2 open division for owner Stephen Roseberry of Urbana, Ohio.
Wound Up Wimp (Wimpys Little Step x Wind Her Up Chic by Smart Chic Olena) and NRHA Professional Matthew Armenta (Whitesboro, Tex.) held their lead in the $35,000 added level 1 open division for owner Carl Lambert (Hempstead, Tex.). They added a 217 to their first go-round score of 216.5 for a 433.5 composite score.
The top open horse and rider combinations, based on composite scores from the first and second go-round, will advance to the NRHA Open Futurity Finals on Saturday, December 1 where the winner of the level 4 open division will earn $165,000 as well as incredible prizes from NRHA Corporate Partners and award sponsors.

Today’s show included section two of the $260,000-added NRHA / Cinch Non Pro Futurity, section three of the second go-round of the $540,000 added NRHA Open Futurity and several Adequan NAAC Championship classes. The show runs through December 1 at Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, Okla.
With a few days still remaining, purse and entry estimates for this year’s event are looking strong with an increase of nearly 300 entries overall and an additional $110,000+ going to the NRHA Futurity purse in both open and non pro competition. The Level 4 Open Champion horse will earn $165,000, a $15,000 increase over the guaranteed amount. $156,750 will be paid to the owner and $8,250 will be paid to the nominator of the horse following Saturday night’s finals. This translates to nearly 30 times the initial $300 investment of an NRHA Nomination Program weanling fee.
McCutcheon and Customized Gunner Win NRHA / Cinch Non Pro Go-Round
NRHA Million Dollar Rider Mandy Mc Cutcheon (Aubrey, Tex.) and Customized Gunner (Gunner x Custom Made Dunit by Hollywood Dun It) held their lead with a score of 219.5 to win the non pro go-round. In October, McCutcheon and the mare won the Turnabout Farms Non Pro Futurity and Southwest Reining Horse Association (SWRHA) Futurity for owner McQuay Stables Inc. (Tioga, Tex.).
Samantha Griffin (Ardmore, Okla.) and Shesa Kachina Chic (Smart Chic Olena by Kachina Oak by Docs Oak) tied for second in the level 4 non pro go-round (217.5) with Kelle Smith (Marietta, Okla.) and Surprizentheprincess (Jerry Lees Surprise x Princess In Diamonds by Shining Spark). To date, Griffin has accumulated $575,400 in NRHA Lifetime Earnings. Samantha’s father, NRHA Million Dollar Owner Lance Griffin (DeWinton, Alberta, Canada), owns the mare. Smith ($466,751 NRHA LTE) and her Surprizentheprincess placed third at this year’s SWRHA Futurity.
Ruben Pacheco Cuevas (Wynnewood, Okla.) and his West Mistress Whiz (West Coast Whiz x Mistress Analena by A Master Plan) stole the lead in the level 3 non pro division and finished fourth in the level 4 non pro division with a score of 217. They earned the reserve championship at the Mexico Futurity in the level 4 open division in October. Cuevas has earned more than $120,700 in NRHA competition.
Two entries moved to second place in the level 3 non pro division and fifth in the level 4 non pro division (216.5): Tricia Hamilton (Phoenix, Ariz.) aboard Gun Gone Hollywood (Gunner x BH Hollywood Lady by Hollywood Dun It) and Kimberly Crupper (Paris, Ky.) riding Mr Briteside (Wimpys Little Step x Go Red Pine by Great Red Pine). Hamilton and Gun Gone Hollywood, owned by Linda Hamilton of Scottsdale, Ariz., won the Scottsdale Classic Futurity Level 3 Non Pro Championship earlier this year. Crupper and her Mr Briteside placed in the top ten at the 2012 All American Quarter Horse Congress Futurity in the level 4 non pro division.
Jeanna Schaffhauser (Tioga, Tex.) riding Dunitwithasmokingun (Gunner x Dun It Doll by Hollywood Dun It) held their lead from yesterday to win the level 2 non pro division go-round with a 215. Dunitwithasmokingun is owned by Sam Schaffhauser of Tioga, Tex.
Identical scores of 214 tied for second in the level 2 non pro division and first in the level 1 non pro division: Brianna Sloan (Whitesboro, Tex.) with her Jaysinic (Grays Jay x Chex Drive by Bueno Chexinic) and National Reining Horse Youth Association (NRHyA) member Cade McCutcheon (Aubrey, Tex.) on Dually With A Star (Mister Nicadual x Dun It On A Star by Hollywood Dun It).
Cade also took home championship honors in the youth non pro division on Dually With A Star (owned by Tom McCutcheon). Former Youth Non Pro Champion Jaci Marley (Plainview, Tex.) earned second place this year on Jennifer and Mark Marley’s Dodge This Gun (Dun Gotta Gun x Footworks Yellow Jac by Footworks Finest) with a score of 211. Youth Non Pro division placings are determined by go-round score.
Reminhick and Welman - NAAC Novice Horse Open Level 2
Reminhick (Reminic Ringo x Hometown Hickory) and NRHA Professional Brian Welman took home championship honors in the Adequan NAAC Open class on Saturday. In their next out, the 2005 gelding, owned by Travis Jon Lemke of New Prague, Minn., and Welman racked up another title: Adequan NAAC Novice Horse Open Level 2 Champions (221.5). Reminhick ($29,500 NRHA LTE) and Welman (River Falls, Wisc.) also won the 2011 Adequan NAAC Novice Horse Open Level 2 Championship for the North Central region.
Reserve honors went to Mambos Whiz (Topsail Whiz by Cindy Mambo) and Amanda Antifaev (Fort Macleod, Alberta, Canada) for their score of 220.5. The duo won Novice Horse Open Level 2 championship at the NRHA Western Canada Regional Affiliate Finals for owners Ken and Margaret Johnson (Thorhild, Alberta, Canada).
O Rourke and Smart Lookin Juice - Adequan NAAC Novice Horse Non Pro Level 2 Champions
The Northeast region beat out the competition in the Adequan NAAC Novice Horse Non Pro Level 2 thanks to Kaci O Rourke and Smart Lookin Juice (Smart Like Juice x Peppys Dandy Doll) and their 220. The 2003 gelding has earned more than $31,600 in NRHA competition. O Rourke is an NRHyA member from Poultney, Vermont.
Shannon Rafacz (Citra, Fla., $401,000 NRHA LTE) and Colonels Rock (Like A Diamond x Colonels Desire, $22,700 NRHA LTE) represented NRHA’s Southeast region well winning reserve honors in the class with a 218. The 2005 gelding is owned by Shannon’s husband, Mark.
Adequan NAAC Novice Horse Non Pro Level 1 Champions
Lindsey McCutcheon rode to a score of 216.5 on Kathleen and Scott McCutcheon’s Mega Beat (Marthas Mega Jac x Back Beat). They captured the Adequan NAAC Novice Horse Non Pro Level 1 championship for the South Central Region. The 2006 mare has $10,800 NRHA LTE. Lindsey calls Whiteboro, Texas home and has earned $108,600 in the NRHA arena.
The reserve championship went to Susan Flynn (Ashland, Ky.) and her Colonel Tinseltown (Gunner x Dun It In Tinseltown). The team won the Prime Time Non Pro championship at the NRHA East Central Regional Affiliate Finals. Flynn has accumulated more than $105,500 in her NRHA showing career.

Win NRHA Open Derby Championship
Oklahoma City, Okla. – June 30, 2011 – The 2012 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Derby showcased the $435,000-added* Open Derby finals on Saturday, June 30 at the Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, Okla. The NRHA Derby Show is NRHA’s premiere event for the world’s best 4-, 5- and 6-year-old reining horses and hosts to two slates of ancillary classes. This year’s Derby finals were the richest ever paying out approximately $885,000* to owners and nominators of open and non pro finalists.
During the go-round, more than 500 entries competed for a spot in the finals with 76 of the top-scoring horse-and-rider teams invited back to Saturday night’s event.
NRHA Professional Shawn Flarida (Springfield, Ohio) rode Spooks Gotta Whiz to a 226.5 to win the Level 4 Derby Open Championship and $60,000 (95% to owner and 5% nominator incentive). Spooks Gotta Whiz (Spooks Gotta Gun x Prettywhizasprettydoes, bred by Clint Haverty) is a 5-year-old stallion owned by Michell Anne Kimball of Encinita, Calif. Prior to the Derby, Spooks Gotta Whiz earned nearly $260,000 in NRHA competition including level 4 open championship titles at the 2010 NRHA Futurity and 2012 National Reining Breeders Classic (NRBC).
Spooks Gotta Whiz won an NRHA Lawson trophy, a $5,000 gift certificate from Twister Trailer, a saddle from Bob’s Custom Saddles, a Montana Silversmiths buckle, a $300 SmartPak gift card, Purina feed, a pair of Rios of Mercedes boots, Assure Guard, Platinum Performance CJ, a Classic Equine pad, a pair of Classic Equine skid boots, $100 gift card from Pard’s Western Shop and a Shorty’s Caboy Hattery 100x hat.
As the sire of the NRHA Derby Level 4 Open Champion, Spooks Gotta Gun won the NRHA Sire & Dam award including $1,500 and a Sire & Dam Bronze trophy. Spooks Gotta Gun is owned by Silver Spurs Equine of Cave Creek, Ariz.
The race for the Level 4 Open Reserve Championship ended in a two-way tie with matching scores of 226: Xtra Quarter Horses, LLC’s Shiners Voodoo Dr (Shining Spark x Voodoo Chic, bred by Rogers Heaven Sent Ranch) and Todd Bergen (Eagle Point, Ore.) tied with Rancho Oso Rio, LLC’s Tinker With Guns (Gunner x Tinker Nic, bred by Rancho Oso Rio, LLC) and NRHA Professional Andrea Fappani (Scottsdale, Ariz.). Each horse won nearly $40,000 for the reserve co-championship.

NRHA Professional Pete Kyle (Whitesboro, Tex.) and E Bar Z Stables’ Gunner Git Ya Dun (Gunner x Gotta Git Ya Dun, bred by Monica Hicks) rose to the top of the level 2 open division. Their score of 219.5 also garnered third place in the level 3 open division. The level 1 open division ended in a dramatic run-off between three entries marking a 218: Ben Baldus riding Dainty Little Step (WT Waggoner Estate), Jimmy Van Der Hoeven aboard Wimpys Cute Tune (Stephanie Diane Nelson, owner) and Lisa Coulter on Whiz It A Chic (Robert Thompson, owner). Win NRHA Non Pro Derby Championships
Oklahoma City, Okla. – June 29, 2011 – The 2012 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Derby featured the $75,000-added Level 4 Non Pro; $55,000-added Level 3 Non Pro; $30,000-added Level 2 Non Pro; $15,000-added Level 1 Non Pro and $5,000-added Prime Time Non Pro division finals on Friday, June 29 at Oklahoma State Fair Park in Oklahoma City, Okla. Out of the original 180 horses and 621 entries, the top 56 horse and rider teams qualified to compete in Friday’s finals. This year’s Derby finals were the richest ever paying approximately $250,000 to owners and nominators.
Jose Vazquez (Markham, Ill.), a veteran NRHA major event finalist, rode into the arena aiming to best Mandy McCutcheon’s of 220 she earned just a few runs earlier on Always Gotyer Gunsup (Gunner x Always A Dunit, owned by McQuay Stables, Inc.). After winning the go-round in the Prime Time Non Pro division and tying for first in the Level 4 Non Pro division riding Moonshine Juice (Smart Like Juice x Wind Her Up Shiner, owned and bred by Smart Like Juice Inc.), everyone knew Vazquez could do just that. They marked a 221 to claim championships in both of those divisions.
For his championship run, Vazquez earned over $17,000, two NRHA Lawson trophies, a $7,500 gift certificate from Twister Trailer, a saddle from Bob’s Custom Saddles, two Montana Silversmiths buckles, a $300 SmartPak gift card, Purina feed, a pair of Rios of Mercedes boots, a pair of Anderson Bean Boots, 19 pounds of Assure Guard, 50 pounds of Platinum Performance CJ, a Classic Equine pad, two pairs of Classic Equine skid boots, a pair of Classic Equine Legacy boots and a $200 gift card from Pard’s Western Shop.
Vazquez ($780,000 NRHA LTE) and Moonshine Juice ($51,000 NRHA LTE) most recently won the Prime Time Non Pro division at the 2012 National Reining Breeders Classic. He also qualified for the finals on Slj Ruf Juice (owned by Smart Like Juice Inc., Smart Like Juice x Ruf Catalyst). They finished sixth in the Level 4 Non Pro division and tied for third in the Prime Time division.
RUBEN PACHECO CUEVAS AND SUGAR CHICS GUNNITT – Level 3 Champions
With less than 10 horses left in the finals, Wynnewood, Oklahoma’s Ruben Pacheco Cuevas ($86,000 NRHA LTE) piloted his Sugar Chics Gunnit (Gunner x Sugar Chics Dunnit) to a score of 220 to tie with McCutcheon for second place in the Level 4 Non Pro division and win first place in the Level 3 Non Pro division. Cuevas and Sugar Chics Gunnit (bred by Jess Moore) were NRHA Derby Level 2 Non Pro Reserve Champions last year. The team marked a 215.5 to clench the Level 1 Non Pro and Level 2 Non Pro divisions. Oklahoma City, Okla. – June 27, 2012 – The second section of the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Non Pro Derby took over the Oklahoma State Fair Coliseum Arena on Wednesday, June 27. The second section included nearly 100 non pro entries vying for their share of $180,000* in added money and the estimated $270,000+ payout (purse and nominator incentives). This year’s NRHA Derby looks to be the richest in history with approximately $885,000 being paid out to owners and nominators by the end of the show.
Scottsdale, Arizona’s Kim Muehlstaetter ($307,000 NRHA LTE) and Daddy Day Care (Nic It In the Bud x Shiners Pretty Woman by Shining Spark) marked a 219 to tie for the top position in the Level 4 Non Pro division. Kim and husband Martin own the 2008 stallion bred by Carol Rose. Daddy Day Care has earned $23,000 in NRHA competition and was most recently third in the Level 4 Non Pro division at the 2012 National Reining Breeders Classic (NRBC) with Kim.
During the first section, Jose Vazquez (Markham, Ill.) and Moonshine Juice (Smart Like Juice x Wind Her Up Shiner by Shining Spark) earned a score of 219 and, ultimately, took the win in the Prime Time Non Pro division. Moonshine Juice ($51,000 NRHA LTE) was bred by Smart Like Juice, Inc.
Moving into the lead in the Level 3 Non Pro division and tying for fourth in the Level 4 Non Pro division with a 218 was Sarah Johnson (Gainesville, Tex.) and Sailor Made (Sailing Smart x Doc Santa Belle by Colonels A Doc). Sarah ($164,000 NRHA LTE) and Sailor Made won the Level 4 and Level 3 Non Pro divisions in the inaugural NRHA Cowtown Classic Novice Horse Derby last year. Sarah’s father, NRHA Million Dollar Rider Craig Johnson, is the owner and breeder of the 2006 gelding.
Anne Reynolds (King Hill, Id.) and Shiney And Verysmart (217) held onto the lead in the Level 1 and 2 Non Pro divisions, as well as the second highest score in the Prime Time Non Pro division. The pair recently won championship titles in the Level 2, Level 1 and Prime Time Non Pro divisions at the 2012 Cactus Reining Classic Derby. NRHA Million Dollar Owner Lance Griffin (De Winton, Alberta) and his homebred Kachina Tag N Chex (Whiz N Tag Chex x Kachina Oak by Docs Oak) matched Reynolds’ score to tie for second place in the Prime Time Non Pro division. Kachina Tag N Chex was a 2010 NRHA Open Futurity finalist with Duane Latimer and a Level 4 Non Pro division finalist with Griffin’s daughter, Samantha, at the 2012 NRBC. Griffin and the 2007 gelding have $391,000 and $33,000 in NRHA lifetime earnings, respectively.
Plainview, Texas’ Jaci Marley ($18,800 NRHA LTE) and Jennifer Marley’s Dun Git A Nicadual ($31,000 NRHA LTE, Mister Nicadual x Gotta Git Ya Dun by Hollywood Dun It) took the championship title in the Youth Non Pro divisionwith a 214. In addition to $737, she’ll receive a saddle from Bob’s Custom Saddles, a $2,500 gift certificate from Twister Trailer, a Montana Silversmiths buckle, a pair of Anderson Bean boots, a $100 Pard’s Western Shop gift card, Classic Equine boots, 25 pounds of Platinum Performance CJ, 9 pounds of Assure Guard, two bags of feed from Purina and a $100 SmartPak gift card.
$15,000-ADDED 7 & UP OPEN
NRHA also welcomed the second NRHA Derby Show running of “7 & Up” classes for horses age seven and older. In the $15,000-added 7 & Up Open, NRHA Professional and NRHA Two Million Dollar Rider Andrea Fappani rode Morris Kulmer’s Dreamy Little Sailor ($73,000 NRHA LTE, Magnum Chic Dream x Enjoy A Lena by Gay Bar Lena) to the level 4 open championship with a score of 219.5. NRHA Professional Brian Welman and Reminhick ($19,700 NRHA LTE, Reminic Ringo x Hometown Hickory by Badger Starlight) took the top honors in the Level 3 Open division for owner Travis Jon Lemke with a 217. In the Level 2 and Level 1 Open divisions, a 216 sat atop the leader board: NRHA Professional Tracy Mc Reynolds and The Whiz Way ($31,300 NRHA LTE, Topsail Whiz x Dun It The Hard Way by Hollywood Dun It).

Fort Worth, Texas – August 27, 2011 – The final horse exited the arena, trailers were loaded and 1,300 entries departed the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Cowtown Classic today. By the end of the show, nearly $340,000 in added money was awarded to participants in more than 40 classes. The final day of competition included the $67,500 added Novice Horse Open Derby for four-, five- and six-year-olds who have won less than $20,000 in NRHA Lifetime Earnings, in addition to youth and Green Reiner classes. Dean Brown and Robert Santagata’s Shiners Whizard along with Dan Huss and Marc Gordon’s Charisma N Chrome led most of the day in Novice Horse Open Derby with a 221. However when draw 99 entered the pen, the leader board changed. Casey Deary and A Bueno Chic (Bueno Fritzi Nic x A Hollywood Chic by Smart Chic Olena) marked a 222 for owner Jenelle Viniel of Lipan, Tex. to win the Level 4 Open division. The duo took home a check for $6,488. Shiners Whizard (Whizard Black Jac x Ebony Shines by Shining Stack) with Brown and Charisma N Chrome (Custom Crome x Miss Sissy Gun by Gun Town) with Huss tied for the reserve championship in the Level 4 Open division and were co-champions in the Level 3 Open division. They each won a total of $9,711 for their efforts. Double Tag Chex (Whiz N Tag Chex x Chic Olena Whiz by Smart Chic Olena) and Bobby Barko scored a 219 to win the Level 2 Open division, Level 1 Open division and a check for nearly $4,500. Lance Griffin (De Winton, Alberta) owns the 2007 gelding. The Level 2 Open Division Reserve Champion was He Willie Whiza Star (Who Whiz It x Stellar Lady by Grays Starlight) and Jeremy Gates who marked a 218.5 for owners Joanne Dipiazza and Joe D' Ercole of Franklin Lakes, N.J. The reserve championship honors in the Level 1 Open division went to Sparkle Spook (Smart Spook x Setting Off Sparks by Shining Spark) and Ryan Rushing with a 218. Niedereulenbach-Rott, Germany’s Shooting Star Quarter Horses own the 2007 mare. ANCILLARY COMPETITION In the Green Reiner Level 1 and Level 2, Kristin Gribble-Bowring and Shes One Hot Chic (Hesa Smart Chic x Poco Bay Gril by Poco Club) marked a 140 for the win. James McCutcheon of Valley View, Tex. owns the four-year-old mare. Two riders scored a 140.5 to tie for the win in the Youth 14 - 18 class - Jordan Donnelly (Aubrey, Tex.) with Jessiesstarlights (Starlights Gypsy x Wannab Jessies Girl by Jessie Rey Tari) and Sarah Bouchard (Petersham, Mass.) with Mif Dee Gunner (Gunner x Mif Dee Bay by Mifillena). Weatherford, Texas’ Whitney Conrad rode Lil Hollywood Gun (Lil Gun x Hollywood Baby Dunit by Hollywood Dun It) to a 140.5 to win the Youth 13 & Under class. Conrad owns the seven-year-old gelding.
Kenleigh N Wells and The Ultimate Magnum (Magnum Chic Dream x Queen De La Club by Queens Colonel) slid to an impressive 142 to win the Youth 10 & Under class. Rayelynne Wells of Valley View, Tex, owns the seven-year-old gelding. On Saturday, the Cowtown Classic also featureda judging seminar hosted by top NRHA Judges, a leadership development seminar and the inaugural 4-H & NRHyA Youth Reining Championship. The Youth Reining Championship featured six accomplished youth riders in a “catch ride” competition. Texas 4-H wasrepresented by the top three placing reining individuals atthe Texas State 4-H Horse Show. NRHyAselected three riders from the World Championship standings to compete on behalf of the NRHA. When the class ended, Sarah Bouchard rode Jordan Donnelly’s Jessiesstarlights to take home bragging rights for the NRHyA. Fort Worth, Tex. – August 23, 2011 - The National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) kicked off the first day of the inaugural Cowtown Classic at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth on Tuesday. The $340,000 added NRHA Cowtown Classic, which runs through August 27, includes the $25,000 added Silver Spurs Equine Non Pro Shootout, a $127,500 added Novice Horse Derby, a $161,000 added Pre Futurity and two slates of NRHA ancillary classes. During the first day of showing, the event hosted competition in two arenas with ten ancillary classes for riders with a variety of skill levels.
Bobby Avila marked a 142.5 aboard Kristen Avila’s Tinselina (Tinsel Nic x Lena You Go Girl) to take home top honors and $600 in the Intermediate Open class.
Tyrel Pole rode PKM Imjusttwosmart in both the Limited Open and Rookie Professional classes and scored 143.5 to win them both. J/P Andersen of Sallisaw, Okla. owns the Two Two Smart mare who is out of Peppys Senorita Flo. In the Intermediate Non Pro and Limited Non Pro, Kyndall Harper and Please Me Whiz (Chic Please x Little Miss Whizzer) scored a 145 to secure the top score in both classes. Augustine, Florida’s JB Burney owns the nine-year-old gelding. Elton Brownshadel piloted Patti Browshadel’s Im The Chic Magnet (Magnum Chic Dream x Pines Nifty Doll) to a 142 to win first place in the Prime Time Non Pro. The nine-year-old stallion has won more than $33,000 in NRHA competition. Winning the Novice Horse Non Pro Level 1 and Level 2 with a 142.5 was the team of Lindsey Mc Cutcheon and Mega Beat (Marthas Mega Jac x Back Beat). Kathleen McCutcheon of Whitesboro, Tex. owns the five-year-old mare. The Cowtown Classic offered two classes for entry-level riders on Tuesday – Green Reiner Level 1 and Green Reiner Level 2. Megan Cassidy won both classes aboard Diamond Tari with a solid 141. Heather Duncan of River Falls, Wisc. owns the eight-year-old stallion by Like A Diamond and out of Smokin Tari. WEDNESDAY’S LINE UP The NRHA Cowtown Classic will offer a dozen classes on Wednesday including the second slate of the Intermediate Non Pro, Prime Time Non Pro, Intermediate Open, Limited Open and Rookie Professional. NRHA will award 10 trophy headstalls from KO Trading to the top ten overall high-point winners from both slates in each of these classes. PLATINUM PERFORMANCE PARTY PATIO Many activities outside of the show ring will be available for participants and owners. Each afternoon, NRHA will provide refreshing summer specialties in the shaded “Platinum Performance Party Patio” giving everyone a nice place to relax and recharge while on grounds.
